The Cohos Trail: 170 Miles of New Hampshire’s North Woods

The relatively new and unknown Cohos (Coh-ahs) Trail extends 170 miles through Northern New Hampshire from the Canadian border near Pittsburg to Crawford Notch in the White Mountains. It’s a remote and and quiet shorter thru-hike that less than a dozen people complete a year. Due to its youth and isolation, the Cohos Trail guarantees a variety of conditions and terrain, with frequent wildlife sightings. From lush, colorful woods to big-mountain climbs, it as varied and challenging as any of the big-name trails.

Distance backpacking in the NorthEast offers many opportunities giving New York State having some major long distance trails to choose from; Finger Lake Trail (FLT), Northville-Placid Trail (NPT), section of North Country Trail (NCT) and a part of the Appalachian Trail (AT).  New Hampshire offers up a real good one that give’s a mix of East and West distance hiking with lush forests and alpine hiking.
